About Llyod “Skip” Dorsey
Skip Dorsey’s love of the guitar began as a child when his parents, believing the drum set he wanted would be too noisy, bought him a guitar instead. The substitution wiped away any aspirations of becoming a drummer but gained him local prominence playing for area bands in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland.
After scoring a hotel circuit gig, Skip’s big break came when he was able to turn that gig into a position as a guitarist and musical director for the then new pop sensation Britney Spears. He followed up four successful Spears tours by touring with Justin Timberlake, The Backstreet Boys, Brian Littrell, Jay Sean, and Italian artist Giorgia. His talent has taken him on tours all around the globe, allowing him to appear on the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, and numerous major international television shows. He has loaned his original funk playing style to the sessions and shows of countless numbers of today’s hottest stars including Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, Ciara, Kanye West, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Christina Milian and 50 Cent as well as timeless talents like Lionel Ritchie, Al Green, Wilson Pickett and The Main Ingredient among others. In addition to playing guitar, he has written for house music diva, Crystal Waters as well as smooth jazz artist Tracy Hamlin. From Pop to classic R&B to modern day hip-hop, Skip’s unique skill has added flavor to the sound of a myriad of musicians across a wide variety of genres.
Between tours Skip works on projects for indie artists in his pre-production studio, records guitar tracks for various artists , gives private guitar lessons to local as well as international students, leads and plays in bands available for corporate functions, edits video and audio in cooperation with LifeVision TV and still enjoys listening to and learning music.
